We are honored to feature Janelle Gilchrist, an accomplished dancer and educator, who received her early training in ballet, modern dance, and jazz at the Harriet Hoctor Ballet School, Boston Ballet School, José Mateo Ballet Theatre, Broadway Dance Project, Concord Academy, and Dance Theatre of Harlem. Gilchrist earned a BFA in Dance Performance at the Hartt School (University of Hartford) and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Mount Holyoke College. She apprenticed with the Hartford Ballet, New Jersey Ballet, and was a company dancer with José Mateo Ballet Theatre and City Ballet Boston. Gilchrist also made her mark performing in Anthony Williams’ Urban Nutcracker, where she debuted as the Sugar Plum Fairy. Beyond her performance career, she served as the principal and lead teacher at José Mateo Ballet Theatre’s Dorchester School and has taught ballet at several local programs, including Tony Williams’ Dance Center, Step By Step, and Boston University’s Reach Program. Currently, she is a full-time dance teacher at The Burke High School with the Boston Public Schools, an assistant professor of Dance at Boston Conservatory, and the founder and artistic director of Janelle Gilchrist Dance Troupe.
We are equally thrilled to present Christopher Brown, a jazz musician known for his innovative performances that are steeped in the jazz tradition. As the leader of the Chris Brown Trio, Christopher brings a unique blend of jazz, blues, funk, reggae, and rock to the stage, captivating audiences with his versatility and passion for music. With a rich background in jazz performance, Christopher honed his craft at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, where he developed a deep understanding of musical theory and improvisation. His education laid the foundation for a career characterized by creative exploration and musical excellence.
